Term 4 Dates

Dear Parents, Students & Friends,

I hope that you have all enjoyed the extra-long weekend, finding the time to do what you love and what energises you as we move into the final stretch of the school year.

Colour Explosion Fun Run

The school grounds were definitely covered in an “Explosion of colour” last Friday as we held our Colour Explosion Fun Run.

This was such a wonderful event for all our students where they ran through an obstacle course whilst Resurrection staff tried their best to cover the students in coloured powder. My sincere thanks to Miss Brittany Davidson for her work in organising this event and to Mr Matt Galea for his outstanding preparation of

the logistics of the event. I’m sure all who were in attendance would agree that the planning that went into this event meant that it ran smoothly with everyone enjoying the afternoon immensely.

I must also thank the Resurrection community for the support that you have given to this event. It astounds me to report that we have raised a total of $3640.80. This money will go directly to the refurbishment of the blue basketball courts adjacent to the oval. Our landscaping company has already booked this in to occur in January.  Thank you to all the students for your incredible efforts in fundraising but also for showing our PBL values of being Respectful, Resilient and Responsible during the colour explosion fun run.

Remembrance Day

Saturday 11th November 2023 marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.

Remembrance Day (or Armistice Day) is celebrated in most countries around the world to remind us to champion peace, and strive to be a world without war, something that we are all mindful of in the current world climate.

Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world pause in silence to remember the sacrifices many have made so we can enjoy life today.

Today our student leaders, supported by Mrs Aclan, led our school through a Remembrance Day prayer service. These leaders reminded us of our privileges and how we can pay our respects to those who gave up their lives for our freedoms today.

Lest we forget

2024 School Fees

Our school has much to offer and provides a very affordable Catholic education for our students. All it takes to appreciate this is to visit some of our local Catholic schools and enquire as to their specialist programs, services provided, and the costs involved.

To keep our own costs as affordable as they are, we do everything possible to maximise our resources and the grants that are made available to us.

However, the payment of the school fees and levies is what makes the biggest difference.

Without families contributing to the running costs of Resurrection, we simply could not achieve, nor do what we do.

Please note that there is a slight increase to the annual school fees at Resurrection Catholic Primary School for 2024.

What’s inclusive of the school Fees?

The annual school fees at Resurrection Primary School include all excursions, incursions, personal learning devices, stationery, camps and administration costs. School photos and school uniforms will be at an additional cost to you. Please advise us if you have a current healthcare card, pension card or immigration card, as this could further reduce the cost of your school fees.

School Fees Pack

A school fees pack is provided to all families at the start of Term 1 and includes:

  • School fees statement

  • CSEF (Camp, Sports and Excursions Fund) application form

  • MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) concessional fee application form

  • Direct debit authority form

  • Centrepay deductions authority form

School fees payment plans

Families have the option to enter a school fees payment plan as follows:

Additional Notes

All school fees are due by 10th March 2024 unless a payment plan has been arranged with the School Bursar.

School fees questions

If you have any questions regarding school fees, please do not hesitate to contact our School Bursar at 8312 6312 or at accounts@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au

School Fees In Arrears

For families who are currently in arrears for the 2023 school year and have not made an arrangement with the school, it is essential that you please attend to your account as soon as possible or to contact the office prior to Friday 10th November 2023.

We truly thank our families who have ensured that their child’s school fees and levies have been paid or who have contacted us to put in place arrangements to suit the family budget whilst being able to access the educational services of the school.

Working together makes a huge difference to ensuring we are able to provide you and your child with the best learning and community experience possible.

School Closure Day

Monday 20th November

In previous weeks, our Resilience Challenge has been focused on having a positive growth mindset, seeing good in the world and the people around us. It is important that we maintain a positive mindset as we face many different challenges and look to conquer them all to grow as learners and as people.

However, sometimes we cannot do it alone. When it comes to a point where the challenge may be that little bit too much; or we are unsure of where to find the positivity in a certain situation, it is important that we have people that we know we can turn to.

With this in mind, our Resilience Challenge for this week is:

To build a strong support network with friends and family

Who are the people that we know we can turn to when we need help? People that we know we can trust and ask for advice when we need it? At school, students can turn to their amazing teachers and Learning Support Officers for assistance with their learning, personal or social concerns. However, as we slowly approach the summer holidays, it is important that we build a strong network of friends and family that we know will help us when we need it.

As we pass the midway point of Term 4, and with summer slowly approaching, it is time to reflect on your current network, and begin to think about if there is anyone else who you can ask questions to when you need help.

I wish you all the best with your Resilience Challenge for this week!

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (25: 1-13)

Look, the bridegroom comes. Go out to meet him.

Jesus told this parable to his disciples: ‘The kingdom of heaven will be like this: Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five of them were sensible: the foolish ones did take their lamps, but they brought no oil, whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. But at midnight there was a cry, “The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet him.” At this, all those bridesmaids woke up and trimmed their lamps, and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, “Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out.” But they replied, “There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves.” They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding hall and the door was closed. The other bridesmaids arrived later. “Lord, Lord,” they said, “open the door for us.” But he replied, “I tell you solemnly, I do not know you.” So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.’

Gospel Reflection

The three gospel accounts from the final three weeks leading up to the season of Advent all come from Chapter 25 of the Gospel of Matthew. They can be seen together as an extended treatise on living life in response to Jesus’ message and preparing for the end of time. This week’s gospel starts out as a Kingdom parable and becomes a bit more of a metaphor for living a Christian life.

The gospel parable relates to ten bridesmaids – five foolish and five wise – who are participating in a wedding ritual that involves meeting the bridegroom and escorting him the last part of his way to the wedding reception. The foolish bridesmaids have not brought sufficient reserves of oil for their lamps and have to leave at the critical time to try to obtain more. When they eventually arrive at the reception hall they are turned away because they have shamed themselves as well as the bride and groom by not fulfilling their duty.

Some of the original audience of Matthew’s gospel, along with many of the early Christian followers, had an expectation that Jesus was going to return and usher in the end of the world in their lifetime. The message of this gospel is captured in Jesus’ final words, ‘So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.’ The timing of Jesus’ coming cannot be predicted and so all Christian believers, like the bridesmaids, need to continue to act with hope and expectation; being prepared for the fact that it may be further off than anticipated. Many early Christians were living their lives as though the world would end at any time. The gospel warns them, and us, to continue to follow the example of Jesus and not to become complacent – expecting that everything is about to come to an end.

Historical Context – Where was the Bride?

It may seem a little odd that the bridegroom was travelling to the wedding hall by himself. What appears to have been the custom is that the bridesmaids escorted the bride to the hall whilst the groom remained behind to settle matters with the bride’s family. Whilst the bride price, or dowry, would have been agreed well before the wedding, the family would emphasise and even haggle over the value of gifts to further reinforce the great value of the bride and the wise choice that the groom and his family had made.

From the perspective of... a bridesmaid.

My friend, Miriam, was married yesterday. She is 14, two years older than me, and has married a fine man. As we waited to receive her husband, some of the girls ran out of oil. They asked me for some of my oil but I knew that if I gave them my spare oil we might all run out before he arrived and then there would be no one to welcome him and light his way. What shame that would be! Miriam and her husband were so angry they didn’t allow the girls into the hall. No one will ask them to be bridesmaids again!

Living the Gospel – Living in Hope

A feature of Christian faith is an approach to life that views the future with hope. In our world today many people look to the future with distrust and even fear. As Christians, we look forward with hope. When change occurs, some allow that change to happen to them whilst others engage in the change process and approach it with hope and expectation. Today’s gospel reminds us to be ready for what the future holds; to look with hope towards what lies ahead, but to ensure that we’ve prepared ourselves properly. The future can only be viewed with expectant hope if we’ve done the proper preparation!
