Principals Letter
Dear parents/carers,
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending Year 3 camp. Our Year 3 students had their first school camp at Camp Weekaway in Benloch about an hour away from school. They participated in a low ropes course, flying fox, canoeing, meditation and archery. I was really impressed at how each student gave the activities their best and supported each other. Sleeping the night away from home was a challenge for some of our students but they showed great resilience. A big thank you to all of our staff who gave up time from their families to attend. Your children were well cared for and well supported.
During the last two weeks of this term myself and 17 other Catholic School Principals from the Outer North Western Zone (the area that Resurrection belongs to) will be participating in “The Footsteps of St Paul”. As a group and under the guidance of experts in the area we will be involved in travel, spiritual formation based around scripture, study and prayer. We will also gain an insight into the history and formation of the early Christian church through gaining further understanding of the writings of St Paul. I look forward to sharing my new learning with the staff, students and the wider community. Jess Davis will be Acting Principal for the last two weeks of Term 3.
God Bless

Bullying No Way Week - National Week of Action
A huge thank you to all the families who were able to join us yesterday for the Bullying No Way school picnic. It was fantastic to see the visual representation of each student, staff and community members hands on the banners agreeing to work together to ensure that the Bullying No Way theme for 2024 - Everyone Belongs is true for all here at Resurrection.
This week our students have explored the themes of Challenging Stereotypes, Promoting Empathy,
Embracing Diversity, Fostering Positive Relationships and Providing Support to ultimately ensure that everyone in our school community is aware that Everyone Belongs.
Father’s Day Celebrations & Gift Stall
On Friday August 30th, we are taking the opportunity to celebrate our dads and those who are father figures in our lives to share breakfast, some fun and games and an activity with your child/ren.
Breakfast is a bacon and egg roll that will be served from 7.30am and conclude at 8.30am. There will be plenty of games to play in the courtyard and a craft activity to complete with your child. Fr Gerard will then be giving our special guests a blessing in the courtyard at 8.15am.
An Operoo form went out to all families earlier this week. Please ensure you complete this form so that we can cater for this event accordingly. Please note that there will be extra staff on duty to assist with the car park so that dads that need to get to work can leave early.
With the success of the Mother's Day stall earlier this year, the fundraising committee is excited to share that we will be holding a Father’s Day stall! The stall will be held on Tuesday 27th August with all gifts being sold for $5.00. Please note that there are 6 different items for students to choose from.
Parents will need to pre purchase items sold at the Father’s day stall using the following link https://resurrection-catholic-primary-school.square.site/
Your child will then receive a token at school which they will take to the stall to exchange for a gift. To begin with each child will only be able to purchase ONE item to ensure that all families get the opportunity to buy a gift from the stall.
If there are any remaining gifts available for purchase the square site will be reopened with the remaining number of gifts available for anyone to purchase in the courtyard on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th August afternoon from 3.00 - 3.30pm. Father’s, Grandfathers and other special friends, we are calling out for any helpers who hold Working with Children Checks (WWCC) who are available to assist at the Father’s Day stall on Tuesday 27th August from 8.30 until around 1.30pm. Please contact the office if you are able to assist at office@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au

Parent Helper Training Program
Our Teachers are ALWAYS looking for more parent helpers to assist in the classroom!
The partnership between parents and staff is highly valued and extra assistance is always greatly appreciated.
Fortunately, we have many parents who sincerely not only wish to visit the classroom in the morning but wish to help with the learning program. As a result of this and to ensure quality of teaching and learning, we are offering a Classroom Parent Helpers Training Program.
The course outlines ways that parents can assist in the classroom by working with small groups of children and providing a role model for learning. It also ensures that parents assisting in classrooms are instructed on correct protocols when working with students, such as being aware of child safety, making judgments about other children and maintaining confidentiality. It is in the best interest of the children in the classroom that younger siblings are not to be present in the classroom with their parent at this time.
Please note if you have already attended a training session earlier this year you do NOT need to attend again! Training sessions will be offered at the following times in our staff room.
Wednesday 21st of August @ 9.00am - 9.30am OR Friday 23rd of August @ 2.30pm - 3.00pm
Year 4 Wizard of Oz Reflection
On the 9th of August we went to watch the Wizard of Oz, with other schools. The show was very exhilarating. I was enchanted by the action and the expression! The main character was Dorothy! Before we watched the performance, we had a break to settle down. After we settled, we watched the performance. The singing, the decorations were amazing!
Stella 4B
On the 9th of August, the Grade 4 students went on an excursion. The college name was Caroline Chisholm. We waited until the bus arrived. When we saw the bus outside, we were cavorted and jumping up and down for how excited we were. So, we hopped onto the bus and we were ready to roll. When we arrived, we saw some other schools that were going to join us while watching the show. We walked in with the other schools and it looked like an enormous cinema. We sat in our seats and we were ready for the show. The show began and there were lots of loud noises playing and lots of lights shining around us. The show was about the Wizard of oz. It took a long time for the show to finish but it eventually finished. It was spectacular!
Amy 4B
On the 9th of August, the Year 4’s all went to Caroline Chisholm College, to watch a performance of the Wizard of Oz! When we found out we were excited! The show was about a tyrant. Nobody was scared of her. All the things she did were reckless! There was a little girl (Dorothy) that had become annoyed by her life, so she ran away with her dog and got lost.
After we had some snacks and went on to the second half of the show. Before we knew it, the show was over.
Santa 4B
This week during STEM, the students of Resurrection have been celebrating National Science Week. National Science Week is an annual celebration of science and technology and how they are a vital part of how we live. Across the school, all of the students have been busy conducting experiments!
SUNDAY GOSPEL
This Sunday’s reading is from the Holy Gospel according to John (6: 41-51)
My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
Jesus said to the crowd:
‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.
Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;
and the bread that I shall give
is my flesh, for the life of the world.’
Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man
and drink his blood,
you will not have life in you.
Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood
has eternal life,
and I shall raise him up on the last day.
For my flesh is real food
and my blood is real drink.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood
lives in me
and I live in him.
As I, who am sent by the living Father,
myself draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me will draw life from me.
This is the bread come down from heaven;
not like the bread our ancestors ate:
they are dead,
but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’
Gospel Reflection
This gospel passage continues the ‘Bread of Life’ discourse that we have been following through the Gospel of John for a few weeks now. It overlaps with the reading from last week with Jesus announcing that his flesh is the ‘bread of life’. Not surprisingly, the Jewish audience is horrified by the idea of eating human flesh. Jesus drives his point home further with his audience by also referring to the drinking of blood. In Jewish tradition, even to touch blood made a person ritually unclean. Any meat that was to be eaten had to be drained of blood, according to kosher rules. The words used by Jesus in this passage are so confronting that they cannot possibly be taken literally. It is a complete overstatement of the image to try to make sure that a literal interpretation is impossible.
When the gospel writer has Jesus speaking about eating his flesh and drinking his blood he is drawing on a very old image of eating and drinking as representing ‘absorbing’; or ‘comprehending’; or ‘understanding’ the message of the speaker. In this ancient understanding, to ‘eat the flesh’ of Jesus is to take into yourself and accept everything that Jesus stands for; everything that Jesus teaches; everything that Jesus believes. It is an act of faith. When we received Christ in the Eucharist, is this the depth of significance and purpose with which we take communion? Unmistakably, this passage points us to the Christian sacrament of Eucharist. The practice of sharing Eucharist as a memorial of Jesus was already well established in the Christian communities by the time this gospel was written and throughout this extended discourse on the ‘Bread of Life’ the author provides a direct link between the practice of Eucharist and the teachings of Jesus.
Gospel Focus – Real Presence
The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is a central doctrine of the Catholic faith. It is regarded as a revealed truth proved by both scripture and tradition. This week’s gospel, indeed the entire ‘Bread of Life’ discourse (Jn 6:26-72), is an essential passage of scripture that supports the teaching of Christ present in the Eucharist. Along with scripture, the other proof of the doctrine is tradition. Since the first century, only a brief time after the death of Jesus, Christians linked their celebration of Eucharist with the words of Jesus at the last supper – they celebrated Eucharist as a memorial of Jesus.
Different View – Cannibalism?
One of the criticisms levelled against Catholicism since the days of the early Church – and continuing even today – is the claim that Catholics perform an act of cannibalism in the Eucharist! The critics seize on the ‘body and blood of Christ’ that are consumed in the Eucharist. Transubstantiation is a difficult concept for many people to comprehend (including many Catholics). Whilst the ‘substance’ of bread and wine – the essence of their bread-ness and wine-ness – are changed to the body and blood of Christ, the ‘form’ of the bread and wine remains the same.
Living the Gospel – You are what you eat!
In a world that is obsessed with health and fitness and yet, ironically, also experiencing an ever-increasing overweight and obese population, what we eat has come under greater scrutiny than ever before. ‘You are what you eat’ has become a catchcry for healthy eating but Catholics have known the truth of this statement for centuries. When we participate in the Eucharist, we not only receive the body of Christ; we become the body of Christ. The people who make up the Church in the world are indeed the body of Christ. In the words of St Teresa, ‘Christ has no body now but yours!’
Child Safety Workshop
The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne is committed to supporting clergy, employees and volunteers to develop the skills and knowledge to promote the safety of children and young people and uphold their responsibilities in relation to the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy.
For those who have not completed the training online or did not attend the face to face training last year in September, another training session will be held on Saturday 21st September from 10am to 12pm. Please register your attendance by placing your name on the sign-up sheet in the narthex.
